The Electricians Couldn’t Believe Our Starlink Was Still Working

So, I just gotta say: wow.
As you may or may not know, we run on Starlink. We installed it shortly after moving into our new place.
It ran great for quite a while, but then speeds started dropping. Internet speeds fluctuate, so at first, I didn’t think much of it.
Then I got an alert in the Starlink app warning that our connection was degraded due to a faulty cable—specifically, the line running from the router inside, underneath the house, to the dish outside. We had used Starlink in our RV previously with the cable laying on a concrete pad with no issues, so when we moved here, we just draped it under the mobile home and called it good.
Big mistake. Field mice decided the cable looked like a snack. This started about a month and a half or two months ago. To their credit, Starlink proactively sent me a replacement cable free of charge. Neat!
Life got busy, and I put off replacing it, but the connection just kept getting worse.
We started brainstorming ways to protect the new run. We originally considered PVC conduit, but while my wife was at the hardware store, another customer recommended flexible metal tubing instead. She picked up the tubing along with some mounting clamps.
Since I can’t crawl around under the home, we hired someone to handle the install. Two electricians came out on Tuesday and got everything squared away.
After pulling out the old cable, they couldn’t believe our internet was working at all. Frankly, after seeing the chewed-up mess myself, neither can I. It’s especially impressive considering that single proprietary line carries both high-speed data and Power over Ethernet (PoE) to the dish. How did it not short out or catch fire?
So, what’s the takeaway here? Always “armor up” your under-home wiring against critters.
Lesson learned. Thankfully, not the hard way!
