What do Doogie Howser, Captain Mal Reynolds & Jack Black have in common?

    Not much, actually!

However, the (actors that play the) first two are in a new “InterWeb TV Show Thingy” from Joss Whedon, the creative force behind Firefly & Serenity.

Check it out at Dr. Horrible.com.

Oh, yeah, there’s a link to buy it on iTunes, as well. You can afford to toss Joss $4, can’t you?

Dear Steve Jobs, The 3G Launch Sucked

    By Derek | July 11, 2008

    Dear Steve Jobs,

Next time you have the chance, kick someone over at AT&T for me. Thanks.

Then kick yourself for allowing AT&T to dictate how you sell product. Thanks.

Wow… purchasing an iPhone 3G was so not the experience I expected from Apple.

    By Derek | July 10, 2008

    Thanks, Stephen!

Stephen twittered today about the Northstar opening… reminding me that I took a few pictures of the event, and promptly forgot to post them!

    Check them here.

    Gigabit

    By Derek | July 9, 2008

I finished upgrading my home network to Gigabit today. I installed the final switch behind my entertainment center (if you can call it that — it’s more of a TV Stand / Audio Rack now).

    Updated SofTouchSystems.com

    By Derek | June 12, 2008

I updated my business website this evening, and even made a post there, as well.

It’s amazing the things you can get accomplished when you are on the road working out of a hotel room. You know, fewer distractions.

I added my certification logos to the sidebar, and finally got the footer (above the Joomla copyright stuff) on the homepage to look right.

A couple more minor tweaks, and it’s time for bed, anyway.

    Blahg

    By Derek | June 11, 2008

OK, Flickr / last.fm sidebars now work perfectly. Also had to fixup the search box, it wasn’t working great either.

I added several more nifty plugins, such as one that will post to twitter for me when I publish this and a “lightbox” for the Flickr stuff. Click on one of the photos in the Flickr box to see what I mean.

Oh! See if you like my new 404 page. Let me know.

    Twitter

    By Derek | June 11, 2008

    Derek

I am now using a service called Twitter.

    What is Twitter?

Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co-workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

Why? Because even basic updates are meaningful to family members, friends, or colleagues especially when they’re timely.

With Twitter, you can stay hyper-connected to your friends and always know what they’re doing. Or, you can stop following them any time. You can even set quiet times on Twitter so you’re not interrupted.

So, that’s the What, Why and How.

To me, Twitter is basically a cross between a blog and IM (instant message).

Let’s say that I “post” to my twitter account. If you are “following” me, you get the message. Everyone who follows me gets the same message.

Messages are limited to 140 characters. This helps to encourage you to be both pithy and timely.

I use Twitter primarily from my iPhone, with SMS. This way, the messages are all but guaranteed to get through. Be careful though, if you don’t have an unlimited text plan on your phone.

There are, of course, Twitter clients for your computer… but if you were at your computer, you could just IM!
