  • Work, The Orville

    By Derek | September 5, 2019

    A good Thursday. (5th)

Worked today. Finished working through my email backlog.

Watched The Orville, season 1. iTunes had a $5 sale on it a while back, I’ve been wanting to watch it. It’s not a true comedy, but it’s not really like Star Trek, either. It definitely has some funny parts. Brannon Braga executive produces it, and at least one episode was directed by Jonathan Frakes. It was very good.

    Didn’t do much else today.

    Work, Email, Pokemon

    By Derek | September 4, 2019

    A good Wednesday. (4th)

Today was my first day back at work. Doctor has me WFH for 3 weeks, pending evaluation.

Mostly worked to catch up on email. I was ~1500 emails unread, I work 4 days a week, I was out for 3 weeks… so, about 125 emails a day behind. Got through many of them today.

Went for a drive this evening after work. Played some Pokémon Go.

    Tired.

    Wife’s B-Day, Frito Pie, Mexican

    By Derek | September 3, 2019

    A good Tuesday. (3rd)

Was my wife’s birthday. We went to eat our normal Tuesday lunch, BBQ Frito Pie. I split mine with our family friend, since I can’t eat a whole one anymore. That’s a good thing, right?

After lunch, another friend joined us, and we (myself, younger son, and two family friends) played 4 player Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 for a couple of hours. That was completely awesome. So much fun learning the characters “synergy” moves with the other characters.

For dinner, we took my wife out to her favorite Mexican restaurant. Was a good time.

Once we got back, we (two family friends and I) played Mortal Kombat 11 on his gaming PC with two XBox 360 controllers. Very cool. I’ve never followed the MK series, but the graphics are very good, and of course, the fatalities are amazing. We played a bunch of 1v1 local, then tried a bit of online, got owned and decided to play some Story mode. It’s got a decent story, so far.

Going To bed “early” as I have work first thing in the morning. I’ll be WFH for the first 3 weeks, then pending doctor’s orders, allowed to go back in.

    Loafing, Music, MUA3

    By Derek | September 2, 2019

    A good Monday. (2nd)

Holiday for most everyone else. Glad y’all joined me in loafing. ?
w00t! Apple has recognized me as the “manager” of Digital Penguins, my one-man band. Give it a listen, if you haven’t. https://music.apple.com/us/album/the-first-album/1328491670

Watched a bit more of Daredevil s2 today.

Played Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 with my younger son and our family friend for several (more) hours today. We nearly had all six infinity stones.

Noticed that I walked across the house once without my walker. Didn’t even realize it, until I went to go back, and found my walker not there. It’s good, I mean, I’ve been practicing, so yeah!

Went to our nieces house in the evening to hang out.

    MUA3, TV

    By Derek | September 1, 2019

    A good Sunday. (Sept. 1st)

Pretty much played Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 all day with my son. Seriously, ~9 hours straight of it. Made some good progress. Unlocked something like 20 of the characters. Gonna get RSI if I’m not careful. ?

Watched the final two Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. That finishes up season 2, and the series.

Kinda just took it easy for the rest of the evening.

    MUA3, Nostalgia

    By Derek | August 31, 2019

    A good Saturday. (31st)

Watched a bit of Daredevil season 2.

Watched a bunch of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes with my younger son. It’s not currently available for streaming. We finished season 1 a while back, so we’re watching season 2.

My 2nd Pro controller, PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller came in for my Switch, so I went ahead and bought Marvel’s Ultimate Alliance 3.

My son and I played that for a couple of hours before bed. It took a few hours to download, while we were watching Avengers.

I remember my older son and I played MUA2 a ton on XBox360. So. Much. Fun.

Our family friend jumped in for a few minutes, using the dual joy-con adapter, too. I think I need to get another set of Joy-Cons for is to be able to play 4-player.

It’s a 4 player local Co-op game, like they used to sell on Xbox and PlayStation, but now for the most part they don’t. “One game+one console=one player” seems to be the rule these days. Not to mention games cost $60 a pop now, and they hold back some stuff… or maybe just release the game early so that they can sell you DLC later.

Might be why I’m spending more time with the Switch, these days. Almost every game is multiplayer local, in some form or fashion.

    Ah, nostalgia.

    TOOL, Timeline, Walking

    By Derek | August 30, 2019

    A good Friday. (30th)

Watched my younger son play some Galaxy on Fire on his iPad, then watched a movie with him.

The new TOOL album, Fear Inoculum, came out today. https://music.apple.com/us/album/fear-inoculum/1475686696 Listened to it, I’ll have it on again when I go to sleep. It’s a bit more mellow than previous albums.

Finished Jessica Jones season 1. Up next, Daredevil, season 2. Also went ahead and wrote up a blog post on the remaining Marvel stuff… the list I had before was incomplete. https://dereksblahg.net/2019/08/30/mcu-timeline-2019/

I’m working on walking more than previously. I go back to work in just a few days.

    MCU, ReelGood

    By Derek | August 29, 2019

    A good Thursday. (29th)

    Finished Daredevil season 1.

Still intent on watching the MCU shows in chronological order, per https://www.inverse.com/article/32661-marvel-movies-order-mcu-timeline … so, I started Jessica Jones season 1.

Also, using the ReelGood.com app to track my TV and movie watching. It’s neat.

Got a great get well card today, signed by all my friends at work. Very cool!

Jessica Jones season 1 is long, didn’t finish it today, I have a few episodes left.

    Doc, Brawlhalla, Win10

    By Derek | August 28, 2019

    A good Wednesday.

Had my 2nd post-op doctor appointment. Doc says I don’t have to bandage my wound anymore. So that’s definitely a good thing.

Played a bunch of Switch demos that I had downloaded with my younger son. Then we moved over to Brawlhalla and played that for a few hours. Once we got tired of that, we played Burnout Paradise on X360. I think between myself and my two sons, we easily have over 500 hours in that game.

I helped our family friend wipe his laptop of Chinese Windows 10, in favor of US Windows 10. Actually started that yesterday, with a secure wipe of the spinny disk in the laptop, and then booted to Linux USB to wipe the m.2 SSD in the laptop, and install Win10. Running Unigine Heaven benchmarks on it, to see where it sits, speed-wise, it’s a pretty beefy laptop.

    Daredevil, Knight Rider

    By Derek | August 27, 2019

    A good Tuesday.

Sorry for no update yesterday. Was a good day.

Today, watched more Daredevil season 1. Also completed season 1 of Knight Rider with my son. That’s all the episodes I own, so we started the pilot for The Six Million Dollar Man. That’s a show I’ve never seen in order before, so it should be fun.

Our niece and her kids stopped by today to say hi and see how we’re holding up. It was a good visit.
