Homeschool Activity, Workout, Star Citizen
By Derek | March 9, 2020
Funday Monday. (9th)
Slept in a bit, then got on the computer to work remotely for a customer. She cancelled with me, as we talked on the phone the other day, and it was already fixed.
We took our younger son to a homeschool activity at The Printed Meeple. Jill and I played a board game called Azul.
It definitely has an interesting concept, and is very pretty, but it might be more fun with more than two people. The rules are a little complex, but once you get them it’s not so bad.
Forgot to mention Sunday that I earned a special Apple Watch badge, for International Women’s Day, for doing a walk, run or wheelchair workout of 20 minutes or more. We walked a mile, and it took us just under 30 minutes.
Came home and got on Star Citizen. My plan was to meet up with a coworker, and walk her through the basics of the game, but once she got in the game, we realized that she had downloaded and installed it, but hadn’t purchased it yet. They do occasionally have “free fly” weekends, but right now isn’t it. She plans to purchase it maybe this weekend.
Either way, I spent some good time in the game, running missions, and building up my in-game credits. I started with about 25k, and ended up with about 40k, even after spending about 15k on some armor sets. Previously, the game databases would be wiped after every major or minor patch, but RSI says they are working to increase persistence, so, even though it’s in alpha, it’s somewhat worth earning credits in game now. They already have ships in the game you can purchase, in addition to being able to purchase them with real money. The ships you buy with real money don’t disappear when the game wipes. I’m fairly certain that it will still get wiped occasionally, since it is still in alpha, but maybe less often.
Went with Jill and our younger son to pick up our older son from work, and take him home.
Came back and worked on posting my journal entries, I was almost a week behind on posting them.

Slept, Library, Dog, Pokemon, Movies
By Derek | March 8, 2020
Sunday. (8th)
Slept until almost noon (nearly 11 hours). Felt good when I got up, though. Exercised first thing, then got ready to take our older son and his wife driving.
Drove to the library to return some stuff, and our older son texted me and cancelled their driving lessons. Which was good, because apparently our dog (Athena) got partially under our fence and hurt our neighbors dog.
I hurried home so we could go over there and talk to them. We’re on good terms with most of our neighbors, or at least we were, so we offered our apologies and offered to take care of the vet bill. Hopefully that will help out.
We also ordered Athena a shock collar, we really need to get her “aggressive to other dogs” behavior under control. It seems to be getting worse.
Left the house to run some errands, and ended up playing some Pokémon with our friends from the BBQ joint. We drove around with them for a few hours.
Got home and went back to talk to the neighbors, they told us what the vet said, so we’ll be taking care of their bill.
We left to take our older son to work, then came home and watched a movie with Jill. First Wives Club, I had never seen it.
After that was over, we went to pick up our older son from work, then came home and watched Fate of the Furious before bed.

Robotics Regionals, Celebration Dinner, Niece
By Derek | March 7, 2020
A great Saturday. (7th)
Got up around 5am to pick up another family, go to breakfast, and drive to north Austin (Hutto, TX).
Stopped at Las Palapas for breakfast tacos and Buc-ee’s for caffeine.
Got to Hutto a few minutes before 8am, right on time!
Our teams competed well, they’ve improved both their driver skills as well as their autonomous programs in just a few short weeks since the last competition. We didn’t win any trophies, but we all had a good time, and it was a great experience.
Drove home and met everyone at Salsalito’s for dinner.
Came home to find our niece and her kids were on their way to crash the night with us.
Still had to exercise for the day, 30 minutes on the recumbent bike, as usual.
Stayed up as long as I could, but finally fell asleep exhausted.

Work, Pack, Bed
By Derek | March 6, 2020
A great Friday. (6th)
Regular work day for me.
Worked on my primary product today. Handled a couple of minor emergencies thrown my way. Completed the container clean up work I’ve been performing.
Once I got home, Jill and our younger son helped me pack everything for our trip tomorrow. We’ve got our regional Robotics competition in Hutto, TX tomorrow.
We went to bed somewhat early, as we needed to be up pretty early for our trip.

Busy Thursday. (5th)
Regular work day for me. Worked primarily on my primary product, still solving guest agent issues with a small portion of our containers.
Jill took our younger son to martial arts, and he got his second stripe on his blue belt today. Next time he tests, it’ll be for his red belt!
I took our older son to work.
Watched the newest episode of Star Trek: Picard.
We went together to pick up our older son from work before bed.

Slept, Haircuts, Robotics
By Derek | March 3, 2020
Busy Tuesday. (3rd)
Slept late a little late due to being exhausted last night.
Got up and took our younger son to go get haircuts. Discovered that my barber, of over 20 years, is out, because he’s sick. He’s getting kidney dialysis. I hope he starts doing better, and can come back to work.
Went to lunch with Jill and our younger son.
Robotics. Our kids practiced a bunch, getting ready for the competition this Saturday.

Exercised, Dr, Lunch, Customer, Slept
By Derek | March 2, 2020
A busy Monday. (2nd)
Got up, exercised, went to my yearly cardiologist checkup. He said I lost one pound, since last year’s visit, and that was pretty decent, with my surgery and all. Of course, he wants me to exercise more, and lose more weight. I’m working on that, mostly. Food is yummy.
Went to lunch at Little Red Barn with Jill, our younger son, and some friends.
Worked for a customer this afternoon, completing their email migration from one provider to another.
Came home, and was completely exhausted, so I went to bed about 9pm.

Driving, Library, Pokemon, Star Citizen
By Derek | March 1, 2020
A good Sunday. (1st)
Slept in. I took our older son and his wife driving, and went to the library to pick up some items. We spent a couple of hours out, and the kids got in some good practice.
Once back from that, Jill, our younger son and I played some Pokemon Go with some friends of ours. We stayed out for several hours.
I exercised once we got home, then our younger son and I played a little bit of Star Citizen, for a short while, then I watched the second half of a movie with Jill before bed.

Leap Day. (29th)
Regular work day for me.
Jill went to help out with a special rocket launch, the Alamo Rocketeers assists other schools and clubs with special projects from time to time. She left our younger son here, since he was still coughing a bit.
He and I watched UHF. I had never seen it, but I read some online reviews to ensure that he could handle it, as it’s PG-13. There are a couple of “deaths” but they are way over the top, and obviously fake/special effects/done stupidly. Pretty much what you’d expect from Weird Al. Hilarious.
Jill got home after a bit, and was exhausted, so she took a nap.
Meanwhile, our younger son played on his PC, and I watched a stream of a Synchronizerz event. The ground combat was pretty good, once it got rolling.
After work, I was able to exercise before bed.
