Work, Kids, Xbox, Friends
By Derek | December 19, 2019
A good Thursday. (19th)
Regular work day for me. Got up a few minutes late and had to “hurry” into work. Working from home today, so it wasn’t really a big deal, though.
Kids played Xbox & Switch today, while I worked. We also watched some Looney Tunes, Skyland, and My Favorite Martian. Mostly the kids played Jurassic World: Evolution, on the XBox, and Nine Parchments on the Switch.
The Jurassic World game is kind of like SimCity, you build a Jurassic Park kind of thing, and then raise dinosaurs, research new genomes, bring in park guests & become profitable.
I ran our younger son to martial arts, since Jill was already on another errand.
Once work was over, just hung out with family, until bedtime.

PT, Party, Family, Danger 5
By Derek | December 18, 2019
A great Wednesday. (18th)
Regular work day for me. Physical therapy first thing. My PT is winding down, but honestly, most days I’m feeling great, so that’s a good thing.
You might be wondering what a zombie gnome is… our friend creates them, and even sells a calendar. I was trying to find a link to his calendar sales page, but couldn’t locate it, I’ll have to get it from him. Either way, here’s a pic of the zombie gnome, ready for Christmas.

Holiday party at work today, they sent us home afterwards.
Came home to a full house. Jill’s stepdad, our niece and her three kids, our existing house guest and his girlfriend, and our nephew.
Hung out with family and friends for a bit.
Started watching Danger 5 season 1. It’s an Australian comedy.
Time for bed.

Gnome, Robotics, Camel, Camaro
By Derek | December 17, 2019
A good Tuesday. (17th)
Had BBQ lunch with our traveler friend, was met there by another long time friend. He gave us a zombie gnome that he created.
I ran Robotics by myself today, as Jill had a craft show. Middle school took apart and rebuilt their robot base, in preparation for building upwards. Elementary did some good work on theirs, today, too.
After robotics, joined Jill at the craft show at Rackspace. They had a camel there and we got a couple of pictures.

Martial arts for our younger son, then dinner at Arby’s.
Saw a cool Camaro and got a movie (8s).
Christmas Camaro
Wrapped one of the three $5 gifts for tomorrow’s gift exchange at work.
Exercised before bed.

Services, Family, Friends, Movie
By Derek | December 16, 2019
Monday. (16th)
Had to wake up early to attend funeral services for one of our closest friends’ oldest son. At only 33, he passed away unexpectedly. The weather today certainly was perfect for this. Cold, rainy and dreary.
Rest in peace, Danny.

The ceremony was very nice, and while we were inside the church, the weather changed and became very nice. Still a bit of cold wind, but nice, sunny and clear.
After the graveside, we went with family and friends to eat at Nicha’s. We had probably 40-45 people there. Nice big group.
Came home and got out of my nice clothes.
Still a bit tired from the weekend, took a nap, and ended up skipping dinner altogether. Did have some hot cocoa with Irish Cream.
Watched the original Point Break before bed.

Pokémon, Cars, XBox, MIB
By Derek | December 15, 2019
A good Sunday. (15th)
Slept in. Still kinda wiped from the Robotics competition yesterday.
Went and played Pokémon Go a bit today. They are having a community day rewind, where Pokémon from this year’s community days are more common in the wild.
Met Jill’s sister while we were out playing, and caught a bunch of Pokémon.
Ran a few errands, including swinging by the library. I didn’t have anything on hold this week, so I was just dropping off stuff.
Forgot to mention, but I saw a car carrier tipped over at the large curve going from 35N to 410W.

I needed to pick up some gifts for a gift exchange at work this week, so we swung by a new store Five Below to check it out. It’s like a dollar store, where most everything is $5, instead of $1. I’m supposed to bring three gifts, one wrapped, and two unwrapped that are no more than $5 each.
A guy I know from a Tech Discord was offering an XBox code to anyone who wanted it for their kid. No one else had spoke up in the channel, so I grabbed it. I figured it was a code for a game, or something. Nope. $100 gift card. Early Merry Christmas to my younger son. We still have to decide what he’s going to buy with it.
Watched MIB3 with the family before bed.

Robotics, XBox, Star Citizen, MIB
By Derek | December 14, 2019
A great Saturday. (14th)
We had a Robotics competition today. Got up early to drive to St Hedwig this morning, to a location for the competition. It started at 8am, and pretty much went through 4pm.

We had a bunch of fun, but didn’t win any trophies. A couple of the boys came back to the house to play XBox with our younger son afterwards.
Got to play some Star Citizen, hang out with my org, fly my new ship, and visit the new planet that just dropped in the latest patch (alpha 3.8).

Watched a movie before bed. Re-watched MIB, since our younger son hadn’t seen the first one. We watched the second one with him the other day, without realizing he hadn’t seen the first one.

13, Work, Stranger Things, Photo
By Derek | December 13, 2019
Friday, the 13th.
Got up early to go to a couple of estate sales, listed on Craigslist yesterday. They were selling “robots” and science stuff. All of the robots were toys, but they did have some Snap Circuits. We already have some of those. We bought a triple-beam balance scale for the classroom.
Regular work day for me. Worked primarily on my secondary documentation project.
Finished Stranger Things season 3. Talk about fan service. Amazing. Can’t wait for the new season.
Took a photo of the front of the house in the dark, with the laser shower on and the moon right over top. I think it came out pretty good.

Time for bed.

Work, PT, Hatch, Pokemon
By Derek | December 11, 2019
A good Wednesday. (11th)
Regular work day for me. Physical therapy wore me out.
Went into the office after that, and was able to work some on my primary product, mostly administrative work, due to our moratorium.
Came home to Jill cooking some great hatch hamburgers for dinner. Awesome and yummy!
Worked late due to my having PT.
Ran around after work doing a few errands, and played a little bit of Pokemon Go.

Exercise, Robotics, Pisces, Movie
By Derek | December 10, 2019
A good Tuesday. (10th)
Exercised first thing this morning.
Our robotics teams are getting close to our first competition this season, it’s this Saturday, the 14th. Due to that, we had two robotics meetings last week, and we’re having two this week as well. Our robotics families got here around 10:30a (normal meeting time is 2pm). We’re trying to give our teams as much time as possible before the competition to work on their robots, and practice driving.
BBQ Tuesday.
Bought a Star Citizen ship today, called the Pisces. It’s a brand new ship, and I have no idea if I’ll like it, but if I don’t, I can always “melt” (exchange for store credit) the thing.

Younger son had martial arts.
Watched a movie with Jill called Last of the Dog Men. Good movie.
